Esté accidente me dio la oportunidad de ser parte del programa de becarios, empezé como por tiempo compartido  pero siempre puse todo mi esfuerzo para cumplir con los requerimientos del programa, el cual lo pude completar y dar lo mejor de mi. Programar mi tiempo con mi familia, mi trabajo de limpieza de casas y mi trabajo principal fue un reto que gracias a Dios pude superar, con la ayuda y empuje de mi entrenadora que siempre me decia que tenía que planear mi tiempo, esto  me ayudo a realizar las tareas semana tras semana.  Tambien recibi mucho apoyo  por Stina y Paty, que cuando tenía algún problema estubieron disponibles.

Ha sido una gran experiencia y satisfaccion el poder haber sido parte de una gran organización como es Firelands que trabajamos en equipo y que logramos mucho en muy poco tiempo. Conveciendo a votadores indecisos, registrando a nuevos, pegando poster para promover los eventos, mandando postales personalizadas en un corto tiempo,  y el poder ayudar a la personas necesitada, esto es muestra de nuestro trabajo duro pero que al final te deja la satifacción y orgullo de  haber sido parte de este gran equipo de becarios de  Firelands.

Una de las areas que me ha ayudado a crecer como persona, es el poder escuchar y conectarme con los problemas de cada persona a las que llamé y que pude ayudarlas e guiarlas en sus problemas o necesidades. Tambien me siento orgullosa de que el programa me dio la confianza de poder hacer una  presentación en mi iglesia, que para mi siempre ha sido un reto por que me traicionan los nervios. Se que los nervios siempre van a estar pero poco a poco voy a poder controlarlos.

Agradecimiento. Le doy gracias a Dios por que me dio la oportunidad de ser una becaria. Agradezco el apoyo de mi familia.  Les agradezco a todo el equipo de Firelands que sin su apoyo y ayuda de cada uno de ustedes no hubiese sido possible todo este trabajo logrado. A Gilda mi entrenadora que me guió y cada semana me aconsejaba como manejar mi tiempo y recordarme mis tareas semanales. A Stina y Paty que siempre me apoyaron en todo lo que necesite. Gracias a todos.

We put together events for Pacific, and Grays Harbor County, by bringing change, support and educating our diverse counterparts, and vice versa. As a team we tore down language barriers with the help of our extraordinary bilingual peers.  What an honor it has been to work with Firelands organization, and be of service to the community we live in.   I would also like to thank each one of the supporters that have donated, or someway contributed to this remarkable organization. I see big things happening within the future to come.

In addition, this was not an easy task, being a volunteer took getting out of my comfort zone. I have had many years of volunteering, but in contrast this was different we had deadlines for voter turnout and asking others to join us to fight for change; which was a new experience to add to my volunteer resume. I choose to do research to better understand the importance of why/ and what we what we were doing. Meeting sometimes twice to three times a week on zoom, and staying connected with other team members took effort, but so worth the outcome. Furthermore, one of my favorite actives, collective organization of the virtual fair, and the dance party afterwards. There was let downs, not everyone that I reached out to showed. However, I still was so happy with the outcome, it was amazing to be able to use my Human Service skill during this 10-week fellowship. I look forward to continuing my volunteer work with Firelands this coming legislative session.

En este corto periodo que estuvimos trabajando aprendí que si hay muchas cosas que podemos hacer como personas y también en grupos grandes y pequeños para luchar por lo que tanto queremos y necesitamos. Algunos de estos ejemplos es lo que hicimos como becarios en este tiempo, como animar a las personas a votar, las 500 postales que fueron escritas y enviadas, el festival virtual, etc. Lo más poderoso para mi como becario fue que aprendí a trabajar en equipo con personas que no conocía personalmente, pero que creen en lo mismo que yo, que quieren luchar por lo mismo que yo y eso fue maravilloso e inspirador. Estoy muy orgullosa de haber podido trabajar con ustedes y ojala asi sea por mucho tiempo. Lo difícil era no tener suficiente tiempo para hacer más, pienso que a veces nos hubiera beneficiado tener más tiempo. Me encanta ser parte de este maravilloso grupo y no puedo esperar para ver en qué más vamos a trabajar, qué más podemos hacer y conseguir juntos.

We also had workshops in which we demonstrated to our participants why it was important to vote. We accomplished these things in a short period of time, but the one that stood out to me the most is when two other fellows and myself were picked to give out testimonies about why we felt the Utilities Moratorium should be extended in out state. We gave our testimonies and the return on our personal stories gave the panel members (city and county utilities executives) the information they needed to extend evictions and utility shut offs for COVID affected families in our region. I heard a lot of testimonies from agencies and people who were suffering because of COVID. It is crucial for us to stick together always but more so during unprecedented times. This fellowship had a wide variety of people from various ethnic backgrounds working side by side for a common cause. It made me feel very proud of the work I was doing. It also made me see that my work helping others will never end! It’s my passion and I will not give up! Sincerely a proud member.
